Green Ocean sources seafood from an Icelandic fishery that was officially certified under the “Icelandic Responsible Fisheries” program in 2013. This is truly a transparent fisheries management program, with a focus on responsible fisheries management, to sustainably harvest while protecting the ecosystem.

These products are certified sustainable seafood by Ocean Wise and the Marine Stewardship Council.

VIETNAM

Green Ocean Organic Shrimp are raised in their natural habitat, the vital mangrove forest ecosystem of Southern Vietnam. The mangroves naturally provide food, shade and shelter to support the growth of healthy, organic shrimp without the need for feed, antibiotics, hormones, phosphates or preservatives.

Green Ocean Organic Shrimp are caught by environmentally responsible fisheries that meet Control Union’s holistic standards and earn an Ocean Wise recommendation.

At Green Ocean, we strive to be different. This is why we also offer Black Tiger and Pacific White Shrimp in our Tartan line, bringing our consumers clean, quality products at a low cost. So what’s different about Green Ocean Tartan Shrimp? Our product is not only processed with our “Nothing to Hide” promise, meaning you will only find Shrimp and Sea Salt in our ingredients, but these products also have an elevated level of Sustainable Certification with both ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) and Ocean Wise. All product also features packaging in an inner vacuum sealed bag, which reduces the natural occurring ice build up or freezer burn. Lastly, to help with meal planning, all our shrimp bags feature an accurate “count per bag”, letting you know exactly how many shrimp you can expect to find inside!

ARGENTINA

Green Ocean Wild Argentina Pink Shrimp, also known as “Patagonian Reds” are wild-caught at sea in the deep, cold waters of the South West Atlantic Ocean, using responsible harvesting practices.

The fishery GO Seafood has partnered with is strictly managed by the Argentinian Government. Prior to each catch season, the government measures the Shrimp Stock Biomass to ensure catch levels are sustainable for generations to come.

Harvested in Argentina, processed in Vietnam? One question the Green Ocean team gets asked frequently is why we process in Vietnam. The simple answer is the Vietnamese’s expertise in shrimp processing! Although the wild shrimp fishery in Argentina is fantastic, we found they lacked the state-of-the-art processing and skilled labour to produce a consistent finished product. Our partner in Vietnam has decades of shrimp processing experience that ensures we produce a consistent quality product every time.

Clean, sweet, and delicious – our Argentina Wild Pink Shrimp is certified with Green Ocean’s “Nothing to Hide” promise, which guarantees you will not find any phosphates or additives in the product!

Green Ocean always strives to stand out from the crowd, and as part of being different, we take a different approach to our production processes, especially when it comes to our methods and expectations for Food Safety. We believe Food Safety either exists or it doesn’t – it has no geographic boundary, and if a processing facility has solid, sound, and safe food handling procedures in place, then we find the physical location of that facility to be irrelevant.

This is why all of our facilities are inspected by accredited third-party auditors on an annual basis, and why our procurement team personally visit these facilities annually as well, to ensure that Green Ocean’s highest standards are upheld by our partners in China and across the world.

Just like any of the other partners Green Ocean sources from, our team works to find the most skilled expertise to produce our products worldwide. Our partner in China not only has the skilled labour, but has also implemented processes that guarantee precision and safety with every Green Ocean product.

THAILAND

Fisheries in Thailand are well known in the industry as “Pioneers” in Shrimp Farming and production. Recovering from a troubled past – with the Thai shrimp industry all but decimated in 2008 due to Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS) – Thailand’s commitment to rebuilding their shrimp industry with sustainability at the forefront is something Green Ocean can get behind.

Green Ocean sources specific products from Thailand because of the experienced skilled labour, but what about social responsibility? The team at Green Ocean works to ensure we have that covered too!

All our plants that we procure from in Thailand must have a gold standard in Social Responsibility Practices. In fact, this requisite applies to all our processing partners globally. You can rest assured that Green Ocean products are being produced in facilities that do not EVER employ children and/or slave labour.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Currently the USA is a source of raw material for some of our Green Ocean products such as our Wild Alaskan Pink Salmon. We source the grade and spec of Salmon that our customers demand and then ship that raw material to processing plants in South East Asia where it is processed into Fillets and Portions. The catch season is quite short for most Wild Alaskan Salmon species. As a result much of the catch is frozen upon being caught.

Plants in South East Asia are equipped with the skilled labour and processing facilities to handle production on a much larger scale vs. the processing plants we have available here in North America.
